Full-Day 5 Cities Tour from Sarajevo to Herzegovina (Mostar)

As we already mentioned, approximately at 08:00 we begin our most popular expedition to Herzegovina.
After we leave Sarajevo, in about an hour we arrive to a small city of Konjic, which is the first visiting point on our tour.

Immediately after arriving our guide will start explaining all the essentials of this city, it’s most popular places to visit as well as the historical facts that are indeed remarkable.

First place to visit in Konjic is the Old Bridge from 17th century which is on the list of Bosnia & Herzegovina’s  cultural heritage.

It was built in 1682. in oriental architectural style during the Ottoman Empire.

On 3rd. of March, 1945. – On the day of liberation of Konjic, it was destroyed by nazi forces that were withdrawing from the area, and after the partizans reclaimed the city they improvised a temporary wooden structure to connect the two sides of the city.

In 1962. the wooden construction was replaced with armed concrete one, and from that moment it began to be used for both vehicles and pedestrians.

In the period from 2006 to 2009, with the help of Turkish Government and the entity of Federation of Bosnia & Herzegovina, total reconstruction and restauration of The Old Bridge was done, which now looks identical to the original one from the 17th century.

Today it stands for one of the most attractive and most popular turistic location for both local and foreign tourists.

Our guide will also tell you all the little details about the history of Konjic, especially with more modern history related to the Communism and the Republic of Yugoslavia, and it’s lifetime leader Josip Broz (aka ‘’Tito’’), who built a nuclear shelter near the Old Bridge for his own purposes.

It was built during the Cold War, and by the beginning of the war in Bosnia in Herzegovina, the shelter was government’s biggest secret. Not much long after the war has ended, it became a top tourist attraction which remained untouched for decades.

Just before entering Konjic we will be climbing mount ‘’Ivan’’ and immediately after exiting the tunel we are entering the official territory of Herzegovina as a complete separate region, which stands for historical part of Bosnia & Herzegovina. The city of Konjic is the most northern city in Herzegovina, where you’ll feel completely different climate and vegetation.

Apart from cultural and historical heritage of the city of Konjic, our guide will introduce you with all the other touristic attractions such as Boračko Jezero, which is also the most popular location for local residents.

On the way to Jablanica we pass by Jablaničko Jezero, an artificial lake populated with a large number of power plants. Today Jablaničko Jezero is also one of the most popular destination for both local and foreign visitors, perfect for having a great time with your family.

Our next destination is the city of Jablanica, about 40 minutes of driving from Konjic.
As we enter the city we stop by the collapsed bridge, which had an immense impact on the complete history of Bosnia & Herzegovina.

Our guide will be ‘’The Battle on River Neretva’’, or ‘’The Battle For The Wounded’’.

The bridge has remained in the river Neretva for decades up to this day, and it tells a great story about the bravery and sacrifice of the people that fought the war against the nazi forces that were determined to destroy the partizans and their leader Josip Broz ‘’Tito’’.

Just by the collapsed bridge, there is a museum of the Battle of Neretva where you can see unique and original equipment and other objects from the battle. The thing that will most certainly grab your attention is the beautiful view of river Neretva and mount Prenj that will leave you breathless.

You’ll enjoy every moment and most likely take a few great photos.

Jablanica is also known for its delicious lamb meat, especially among the local population, but also among the entire country.

There are lots of first-class restaurants that offer fresh lamb meat, where you get to see the entire process of preparing, cooking, and serving the delicious meat.

This is also a great place to drink traditional Bosnian coffee.

If you’re a vegetarian, don’t worry. You’ll enjoy lots of vegan plates to choose from.

The Canyon of river Neretva is one of the most beautiful canyons in Europe. As we leave the city of Jablanica, you get to enjoy this beautiful scenery almost the entire way to the old city of Mostar.

Along the canyon, there are various places where you can stop and take some great pictures.

We believe that this will be one of your most memorable things during the tour.

On the opposite shore of river Neretva, there is a railroad that goes through the system of tunnels dug through mount Prenj, which connects Sarajevo, Mostar, and Dubrovnik.

One hour trip from Jablanica through the canyon of river Neretva, we enter the cultural and historical jewel of Bosnia and Herzegovina, The City of Mostar.

It is most definitely one of the most popular touristic attractions in this part of Europe, and you’ll understand this once you get there.

Besides the cultural and historical side, Mostar is also the administrative center of Herzegovina, a city with rich history and of course, the most popular attraction on Balcan, The Old Bridge.

The Old Bridge is a synonym of Herzegovina and one of the most beautiful bridges in the world, built during the reign of the Ottoman Empire.

While visiting Mostar, we take an easy walk through the old city center and the famous bazaar, where we first get down to river Neretva by the Old Bridge. Here our guide will tell you the history of Mostar as a regional economical center.

You’ll get to hear about the story of the Old Bridge, how it was built, and also how it was destroyed during the 1992-1995 war in Bosnia & Herzegovina.

There is also a story about rebuilding and restoring the old glory of this beautiful masterpiece of the Ottoman Empire.

After that, we will visit the Old Bridge Museum where you can watch a short documentary film about the Old Bridge and its complete history.

Mostar is the last place we visit on our tour, and we prefer visiting it afternoon when most of the groups of tourists from across the region are leaving.

We most certainly don’t want you to feel nervous in the crowd so that you can enjoy every moment.

After spending time with our guide, you will also get 20-30 minutes of free time to discover the city of Mostar by yourself. We believe that this is the place that you’ll fall in love with.

After visiting Mostar, we are going back to Sarajevo.

The trip back is about 2 and a half hours long.

During this time you’re free to speak about your experience of the tour in general, as well as to ask questions about anything you want to know.

Entering the medieval city Počitelj, the first thing that will catch your attention is going to be the magnificent Hajji Ally Mosque, The Clock Tower, and The Tower of Gavrankepatanovic.

Everyone that passes by the road simply has to stop and look at all the beautiful monuments of history.

Besides that, 90% of the medieval city of Počitelj is restored and it is one of the protected national heritages of Bosnia & Herzegovina.

The city of Počitelj has a long and colorful history, as it has been conquered by many empires, with each one of them leaving a deep mark on its culture.

You can easily tell the architectural difference between the Bosnian Kingdom period which built the city in the first place, and the Ottoman Empire which conquered it and changed its look towards oriental style.

The city of Počitelj is an ideal place for lovers of medieval history. It is a special thing to walk the streets where once kings and knights of the Bosnian Kingdom lived.

There is a story of recent past events of Počitelj and how it got completely destroyed during the last war.

While visiting Počitelj you will have the chance to talk to the local residents who are always in a friendly mood, looking forward to helping you and selling some of the best fresh juice that will certainly feel good in the middle of Herzegovina’s summer. Sometimes the temperatures go up to 40 degrees Celsius.

After a short ride of about 25 minutes, we come to Blagaj, on the source of the river Buna, located at the bottom of a cliff that will leave you breathless. The source of river Buna is one of the most beautiful river sources in Europe, with crystal clear, fresh water, that you can literally drink from the river itself.

River Buna is coming out from a beautiful cave that you can explore with the local boat owners.

Just by the river source, there is the Dervish house Teqqiya which represents a great example of Islamic architecture. It dates from the Ottoman Empire’s age of mysticism.

Today, the Teqqiya is the place where various prayers are being offered by many Islamic groups, and it is a place that vibes with calmness and good spirit.

It’s most definitely a place that will leave you speechless once you get to see it, and we guarantee that you’ll only want to come again next year.

After visiting Teqqiya, we stay for a little bit longer for lunch. The crystal clear river Buna is a great spot for many restaurants offering fresh trout.

No, this tour doesn’t include it. Adding this to the trip will cost additional 15 euros with a ticket to Kravice included. You only have to remind us so that we make sure you get there.

No, it doesn’t. Adding this to the trip is possible, you just have to send a request to our team that will arrange a private tour to visit this exotic location in Konjic.

3 : Is lunch included within the tour?

No, the lunch isn’t included. The prices in restaurants are very acceptable. When we make a stop on river Buna, you can eat for somewhere between 6 and 10 euros.
